The municipal brewery was founded in 1720 on the site of the former outer ward of Znojmo Castle. In the 1st half of the 19th century, it was purchased from the municipality by the Maural family who had it completely remodelled and extended southward. The author of the design was Josef Unger. The last owner of the brewery, the Heineken company, sold the whole complex to Znojmo municipality. The brewery brewed Hostan brand of beer. Its buildings form an inseparable part of the Znojmo skyline: though serving prosaic purposes, they testify to the sensitivity and good taste of industrialists in the chivalrous period at the end of the 19th century.
