The complex at the Remanence site close to the Elbe was built on land offered to the town by the waterways management on condition that it will be used for physical training and sports. The largest part was leased to the Sokol gymnastics organisation. The gymnasium and boathouse, designed by J.Bartovský and architect Roit, were inaugurated on 19 June 1922. A wooden house from a POW camp was used for the construction. The complex included the gymnasium, changing rooms, library, boat house, caretaker´s dwelling, a roofed verandah with a grandstand, as well as running track, tennis courts, volleyball and basketball courts, playground and swimming pool with a small sand beach. "Réma" became a synonym for worthwhile pastime and sports activities.
