In the 1860s, a single narrow unpaved road led from Liberec to the Jizerské Mountains. Sedmidomky ("Seven Houses"), as this part of Liberec was called, became a popular destination of Liberec citizens´ leisure strolls. In 1897, Liberec restaurateur Emil Sieber had a garden restaurant called Belvedere built here. In 1900-1901 it was remodelled to the design by architect J. Schmeissner. The new restaurant, with a large hall in its centre, bears marks of fading Romanticism with elements of the forthcoming Art Nouveau style. After WWII, the name "Lidové sady" ("People´s Park") started being used for the structure, in which balls, graduation ceremonies, exhibitions and concerts are held nowadays.
