The building, a two-storey house of three sections, adjoins the town walls. The oldest part originated in the early Baroque period, as is documented by the surviving vaults on the ground and first floors. The gable features the date 1891 and a statue of St Barbara. Eight cells with the original metal-plated oak doors, a black cell used for solitary confinement, and a prison chapel are still preserved in the interior. The building was a prison until 1945, and then was used as municipal archives until the 1980´s. It now houses the Prison Museum.
