Originally a 13th century stronghold, first reference from 1318, later a Gothic moated castle with 14th century alterations by Vilém of Pernštejn. The present Renaissance appearance resulting from a remodelling by architect Aostalli in the 2nd half of the 16th century, rich wall paintings in "Adalbert Hall".

The current renaissance appearance of the chateau is the work of the House of Pernstein which was involved in the unique conversion of the former castle into a comfortable palace surrounded by massive fortifications in the 2nd half of the 16th century.
