Applied Arts Secondary School at Helenín

Hálkova 42
Jihlava, 586 01

In the Middle Ages, a water mill existed on the site, in 1854 it was purchased by J.Morowitz who turned it into a clothmaking factory after two years. In 1873 Karel Löw upgraded it into a modern enterprise which employed 2000 workers. During World War I, production started to decline and later was completely discontinued. In 1946 the factory was nationalised. During 1949, part of the former factory was converted into a vocational knitting school with dormitories, which acquired the status of a secondary school in 1954, and in recent years has intensively focused mainly on art subjects.
