Litomyšl Chateau is a rare example of an Italian Renaissance palace adapted for regions north of the Alps. It was built by Vratislav of Pernštejn as a gift for his beloved wife Marie Manrique de Lara in 1560-1580. In the 17th and 18th centuries the formerly Pernštejn Renaissance residence was restyled by the following owners - the Trautmannsdorfs and the Wallenstein-Vartenberks, who invited leading Baroque artists. Especially notable is the preserved Baroque chateau theatre of 1797. In 1999, the chateau was included in the UNESCO World Heritage list.
